A TIME TO BE BORN
Carlos Marqueil Hughes was born July 7, 1980, in Cleveland, Mississippi, to Cardell and Jacqueline Hughes. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elder James Matheney and Katie Lee Matheney; Elder J. D. Hughes and Mure Lee Hughes; and Jonathain (Joe) Devine; and his uncle, David F. Cooper Sr.
A TIME TO PLANT
Carlos graduated from Rosedale High School in Rosedale, MS, in 1998. He was a star athlete in football and basketball at O'Bannon High School in Greenville, MS, and at Rosedale High School. Football was his passion. Carlos received a football scholarship from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in Monroe, LA, as a linebacker. He graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). He later married the love of his life, Adrienne (Moose) Evans. Together they have two beautiful children, Autumn and Cauri.
A TIME TO ACCEPT CHRIST
Carlos accepted Christ as his personal savior as a teenager, was baptized at Agape Storage Christian Center in Greenville, Mississippi, and later joined Victory Christian Life Center Church in Delhi, LA, under the leadership of Pastor Michael L. Wilson, where he attended for many years. While there, he attended the Victory Christ Life School of Ministry.
A TIME TO LABOR
Carlos was employed with the Monroe Police Department as a police officer for 11 years. He then transferred to the ULM Police Department. He later became an entrepreneur in the trucking industry. At the time of his death, he was a manager at Enterprise Holdings. For seven years, he mentored/coached youth in various sports. He was a true evangelist who shared the love of Christ with many. He was a member of a Christian Brotherhood called Five Kings in Christ, along with Pastor Jeron Strickland, Bro. Ashton King, Bro. Kalvin Flowers, and Bro. Derrick Gibson.
A TIME TO MOURN
Carlos leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife--Adrienne Hughes and two children-- Autumn and Cauri Hughes of Rockwall, TX; his parents: Cardell and Jacqueline Hughes of Rolling Fork, MS; his sister--Natasha (Varieon) Owens of Winnsboro, LA; his brother--Jamon (Kamesha) Hughes of Forney, TX; five uncles: Morris (Amelia) Drummer of Ruleville, MS, Carl (Aneeka) Cooper Sr. of New Iberia, LA, Jerry Hughes of Louise, MS, Lester (Jo Mary) Hughes of Madison, MS, and Perry (Diana) Hughes of Vicksburg, MS; four aunts: Shirley (James) Rogers of Hammond, IN, Vangeleen (James) Ware of Olive Branch, MS, Willie Mae (the late Ralph II) Buxton of Detroit, MI, and Linda Hughes of Itta Bena, MS; special sister/brother-cousins: Vantassal (Christopher) Hall of Cleveland, MS and Vaterrial (Tamesha) Cooper of Dunson, LA; a special aunt —Virginia Marshall of Rosedale, MS; mother-in-love— Sharon Napier of Livingston, AL; and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A TIME TO DIE
Carlos made his peaceful transition from his earthly home on May 5, 2026, at Texas Health Hospital in Rockwall, TX.
