On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Ms. Cora Shade took her final breath on this side of heaven. The world became brighter when Cora was born to Mamie Dell Butler and Louchious Williams, Sr. on June 7, 1942.  Reared by her grandmother, Cora's early years were spent in Sharkey County and her teenage years in Chicago, IL. She returned to Sharkey County in 1959.

In 1992, Cora proudly went back to school to receive her G.E.D.

Cora Shade lived a full and warm life and was the "aunt" and "second mother" to many young women. She professed her hope in Jesus Christ and was actively involved in True Light Church as a member for 50+ years. There, she served as church secretary, choir director, and treasurer.

Cora Shade was a Civil rights pioneer in Sharkey County, served in the NAACP, Order of Eastern Star, and involved in many civic organizations.  She was the first Lead Teacher at True Light Head Start Center in 1965.

Cora rendered over 30 years of service to the South Delta School Systems and retired in 2007 from her role as Cafeteria Manager. She took this role very seriously with compliance and love for how she served the students.

Cora was an avid planter and gardener, and took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with these activities.

Ms. Cora Shade is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Eleazer Shade, and her beloved daughter, Jacqueline Shade.  She is survived by many loving family members including her four sons, Efrem Shade, Patrick Shade, Stephen Shade, and Kenneth Shade, Sr., and her daughter, Hazel Shade. Her legacy lives on in her sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Cora was filled with dedication to her family, community, and church. She will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, laughter, and wisdom.
