Obituary

Eugene "Baby Gene" Lane, Jr. was born to the late Willie and Eugene Lane Sr, on April 25, 1935 in Nitta Yuma, MS. On December 6, 2024, Mr. Lane passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

Eugene gave his life to Christ at an early age. He served faithfully as a deacon at Mt. Ollie M.B. Church in Egremont, MS until his passing. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He worked diligently in the community as a barber and worked faithfully for Lamensdorf Plantation for many years. He also worked for Mississippi Christian Family Services.

Eugene was a huge Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers fan. He enjoyed hearing the stories of his great grandson Mason Eugene Lane (his namesake) sports endeavors. He thoroughly enjoyed attending Mason's football and baseball games. He was a pillar in the community. He enjoyed camping. He could often be found in the barber shop cutting hair and chatting with the men of the community.

Eugene was married to the late Annie Mae Lane and to this union five children were born.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Lane; parents, Willie and Eugene Lane; six brothers: Sylvester Lane, Henry Lane, Larry "Snook" Lane, Samuel Lane, Edgar "Baby Ruth" Lane, Eddie "Peter" Lane and two sisters, Theresa "Baby Sister" Anderson and Delores Jefferies.

He is survived by a dedicated companion, Kimberley Exel; five children: Janice Banks, Gregory (Gwen) Lane, Bobby (Maxine) Lane, Ronald Lane, and Valorie Lane; four grandchildren, in which he raised: Angela (Patrick) Grayson, Kevin "Punkin" Williams, Lashonda Lane and Kevis Raynell Lane.

He also leaves to cherish his loving memories two sisters, Darlene (Melvin) Lane Ferman, Chicago, IL and Vera "Diane" Lane, Cary, MS; one brother, Erwin (Tanya) Lane, Chicago; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and several special nieces, nephews and cousins whose lives he was instrumental in.
