Henry Sterling "Son Henry" Sias, Jr. was born April 22, 1939, to Violet Brown Sias and Henry Sterling Sias, Sr. in Issaquena County, Mississippi. He was an intelligent, quiet, and thoughtful child, – number eleven of sixteen Sias children. Henry was very close to his brothers, Wendell and Bill and sister Yvonne.  As young boys, Henry and Wendell were inseparable until Wendell's tragic death due to a tractor accident.  Thank goodness Henry still had his other running buddies Bill and Yvonne to keep up shenanigans and adventures.  Son Henry and Bill loved the ladies for sure.  They flirted constantly, joked, and shared stories about their love for beautiful women.

Henry accepted Christ at an early age at Woodland Missionary Baptist Church and remained a devoted parishioner until his death.  At Woodland, Henry served as treasurer and secretary. He also helped Willie Sias and Kevin Reed build the new church in 1999.

Henry attended Tallula Rosenwald School and Issaquena Public School for his elementary, intermediate and secondary education. Following his high school graduation, Henry served in the United States Air Force.   After four years of service, he was honorably discharged in 1963.  After his service in the AirForce, Henry worked in a steel mill in Gary, Indiana where his beloved older sister Ollie and her husband Austin lived and were raising their three sons. Two years proved enough to be away from home, and he returned to the Issaquena County family farm. Henry attended Jackson State University and a cabinetmaking trade school in Jackson, Mississippi. Son Henry worked a variety of jobs as a young man; he worked with the Headstart program, the US Census Bureau, logging companies and log transportation, as well as construction work.   Henry also worked alongside his brothers, erecting fences for his brother's fencing business.

Henry loved his hometown and had profound respect for his father's accomplishments in the Civil Rights Movement and community enrichment. He was devoted to helping uplift Mayersville and the Issaquena County community, he participated in all manners of civic affairs. Firmly and deeply committed to his ancestral legacy, he built his house directly adjacent to the family homestead and from there, managed and farmed the land to the best of his ability.

Henry enjoyed communing with his Christian men's group, gathering with friends, reading, and watching 'rasslin' (wrestling), and whatever the activity, he was even happier if it involved eating food!  Henry had a fierce love for his family, so he traveled nationwide to family celebrations.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Oliver Wendell Sias, Ernest Lee Sias, Leo Sterling Sias, James Archer Sias, Julius Caesar Sias, Webster Eugene Sias, sisters; Cora Sias Stockley, Valena Bankston Morris, Ollie Mae Sias McCully, Yvonne DeCarlo Sias, and Violet Sias Bowden. Henry leaves to cherish his memory sisters; Lucille Sias Nelson of Memphis, TN, Desiree Carol Sias of Atlanta, GA, and brother Barthonia Ross Sias of Brookhaven, MS, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
