Graveside services for Josie Newman- Smith, 77, will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 18, at Cary Community Cemetery in Cary, MS. Brother John Selmon will be officiating. Mrs.Smith died March 13, 2021 at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS.

Josie "Puddin" Smith was born on July 26, 1943 in Beulah, MS at Beulah Community Hospital to Ed & Mary Newman. She graduated from West Bolivar High School. For over 10 years, she was a school bus driver for Rolling Fork High School. She then began driving for Durham School District in Terry, MS, where she eventually retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed & Mary Newman; husband, Oliver Smith, Jr.; siblings: Willie James Coleman (Besseva), Albert Lee Coleman, Lottie Heath, & Margaret Coleman; and her daughter, Sandra Smith Jackson.

She is survived by her daughters: Gloria Newman, Tunja Newman, Shelia Newman, & Marion Newman; son, Tony Newman; grandchildren: Sharronda Newman, Dominique (Hollis) Kendrick, Michael Newman, Ray'chel Newman, Tommy Newman, David Newman, Brittany (Keith) Milsap, Ebony Newman, Robert Hudson, Christopher Tyler, Amber Jackson, & Robert Jackson; great-grandchildren: Braylen Newman, Kirsten Newman, Kamarcus Newman, Kyris Sutton, Mallorie Newman, Landyn Lindsey, Ivory Newman; and one sister, Adline Hatcher.
