Moses Lee Gipson Sr. was born on May 9, 1950, in Anguilla, Mississippi, to the late Motree and P.G. Gipson. He was the youngest son of eighteen children. From an early age, Moses gave his life to Christ, and his love for the Lord remained steadfast throughout his journey.

In 1969, Moses graduated from Henry Weathers High School. He later attended Alcorn State University on a band scholarship, where he became part of the inaugural group of musicians trained by the late Samuel Griffin, a well-respected mentor. Though he left college early to support his family as a general contractor, Moses never drifted far from his love for Alcorn State University, its heritage, and the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band.

Moses encouraged countless relatives, friends, and community members to consider Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). One of his proudest moments came this past May, when he watched his granddaughter—dressed in purple and gold, like him—walk across the stage to receive her graduate degree from Alcorn. That memory remained dear to him. He was known for his energy, his love of music, and his ability to bring joy to every gathering. He also took pride in supporting Alcorn football and the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite, contributing to the establishment of the Samuel Griffin Memorial Scholarship for band students.

After decades of hard work in construction, Moses retired. Yet his passion for building and mentoring never faded. In 2023, he came out of retirement to serve as Construction Manager at the West Jackson Community Development Corporation. This became one of the most fulfilling chapters of his life, as he guided young men in the construction trade. He found deep joy in mentoring, and conversations with him were often filled with pride as he shared stories of his students' progress.

In January 2025, Moses was accepted to return to Alcorn State University to complete his bachelor's degree—a lifelong dream he was excited to finally pursue.

In His infinite wisdom, the Lord called Moses home. After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully, leaving behind the trials of this world. He now rests in eternal peace, embraced by his Savior, surrounded by everlasting glory.

Moses was preceded in death by eight Brothers: Burnett Gipson, Otis Ashley, Elijah Lee Gipson, James Gipson, John Gipson, Stanley Gipson, James A. Gipson, and one brother who passed in infancy; and four sisters: Faye (Gipson) Harris, Allie Mae Buckley, Sirseal Gipson, and Ollie Ashley.

Moses is survived by his loving children: Ashantung (Tangela) Lampkin, Hope (Sedrick) Irvin, Latashia Thomas, Ariesha (D'Urville) Bonner, Kashawn (Claudetta) Spencer, Stephanie (David) Coins, Mose (Shannon) Gipson, Sean Evans and Davelin Moore; grandchildren: AJ, Seddy, Amarri, Tanaya, Jaisha, Jevoné, Jadé, Devryn, Ashlee, Autumn,  Kashawn Jr., Kelleese, Kierra, Keshawn,  Diamond, Destyni, Lila and Jasmine.

He is also survived by his sisters: Ida Ree Morris, Ada Gipson - Hardy, Edith Gipson and Mottis Ashley; and brothers, Luphine Gipson and Nathaniel Gipson.

He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, each a shining light in his legacy.
