Obituary

Norean Hall Coleman, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the age of 90.

A Life of Faith and Family

August 23, 1935 in Egremont, Mississippi, Norean was the daughter of Lillian Edwards Coleman and James Hall. Following the passing of her mother in 1947, when Norean was just 12 years old, she was lovingly raised by her grandmother, Annie (Johnson) Carter. She grew up alongside her siblings, Marcellous Hall, Alice (Coleman) Guest, Rosa (Coleman) Brown, and Clyde Coleman Jr., Jesse James Coleman, as well as her close uncles, Aaron Carter and John Carter Jr.

Norean spent nearly all her life in Sharkey County, Mississippi, where she shared a life of love and devotion with her husband, Nelson Coleman Sr., who preceded her in death in 2005. Together, they built a family grounded in faith, resilience, and compassion.

Norean was baptized at St. Michael Missionary Baptist Church in Egremont and later became a devoted member of Mt. Lula Missionary Baptist Church. She faithfully served for more than 40 years on the Usher Board before being recognized as a mother of the Church. Her quiet service also extended to her work life; she was a dedicated employee at Delta Elastics until her retirement in 1995.

In retirement, Norean continued her gentle stewardship, whether through serving at church, helping neighbors, cooking when needed, or simply being present as a source of encouragement and love. At home, she enjoyed simple pleasures, including mastering Pac-Man on her computer, and she remained a steady, gentle presence in the lives of those around her.

She will be remembered as a kind, gentle spirit whose quiet strength touched everyone who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on through her family and community. Norean was a devoted mother to Annie Coleman Burkhead(Ricky), Charles Napolean Coleman, James Gregory Coleman, Stanley Coleman, Darrin Lamonte Coleman, and Eric Marcel Coleman; and a loving stepmother to Nelson Coleman Jr. (Rose Marie) and Jacquline Coleman.

Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Rachel (Burkhead) Love, Timothy Burkhead, Candace Coleman, Charity Knight, Mario Tatum, Terrance Griffin, Joshua Griffin, Stanley Coleman Jr., Lazarius Coleman, Yazmine Coleman, Patrick Coleman, Kensey Coleman, Reginald Knox, Leslie Coleman Congleton, and Cory Coleman; She is also survived by four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbors, and dear friends.

Norean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nelson Coleman Sr. and two of her children, Kenneth Coleman and Janet Coleman Knight.
