Obituary

Norma Faye Yorke Sias was born to Ukuele Kincaid Kelly and Leodis Yowk in Lena, MS on July 24, 1943.  She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents B and Gertrude Kincaid, sister Artie Scott and brothers Arthur B Kelly, Carnell Kelly, and Malcom Yowk.

She confessed herself to Christ at an early age at the Tribulation Baptist Church in Carthage, MS.  She graduated from Jordan High School and went on to Jackson State University where she received a Bachelor's of Arts in English/Literature.  She later received a Master's in Library Science from Delta State University.  She was initiated into the Delta Pi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1964.

She began her teaching career at Henry Weathers High School in Rolling Fork, MS as an English teacher.   She later moved into the role of Librarian at Anguilla High School until she retired after 34 years.  She was an active member of the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Secretary for over 30 years. She served several years as secretary of the Issaquena County Federal Credit Union.  She was also an active member of the Vicksburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Retired Teachers and Educators.

Norma passed peacefully at home on November 1, 2022.  She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 52 years Melvin, her daughter Melanie and step-daughter Dr. Tyra Pates along with six sisters: Opel Weatherspoon and Debra Banks (Lyndale) of Carthage, MS, Sylvia Morgan (Lynn) of Jackson, MS, Doris Phillips and Everlena Johnson (James) of Kosciusko, MS and Shirley Davis of St. Louis, MO and five brothers: Matthew Yowk and Pastor Leon Yowk (Jacqueline) of Kosciusko, MS, Sanford Yowk (Marilyn) of St. Louis, MO, Lloyd Jerome Kelly (Helen) and Michael Kelly (Terry) of Carthage, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
