Shandrick was born on November 18, 1978 to the late Ruby Lee Montgomery and William "Hockey" Dunson. Shandrick grew up in Louise, MS and later moved to Vicksburg where he was most recently employed at The Gumbo Pot. Anyone that knew Shandrick, knew that he was the life of the party and had a smile that would brighten any room he entered.

In addition to his mother, Shandrick was preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy Thompson. Shandrick's granddaughter, Gracie Gibbs, joined him in Heaven a week after his death.

Shan leaves to cherish his memory his father, William Dunson; his daughters; Daliyah Gibbs, Shantavia Gibbs, Shaymora Thomas, and Shariya Harris, his sons; Shandrick Montgomery, Jr and ShanDerrick Montgomery. In addition to his children, Shandrick is also survived by his sisters Yalonda Montgomery, Leonna Montgomery, Rita Jamison, Tori Jones, Delbra Sturdivant, Andrea Dunson, Diamond Green, Shemace Green, Ciara Green, and Falicia Green; brothers: Leonard Montgomery, Roy Thompson, Demond Thompson, Sandy Griffin, Patrick Stamps, and William Weatherspoon ; a special friend, Mercedes Trisby; a special aunt, Frankie Washington; and three grandchildren.
