Obituary

Shiloh “Shea” Hite, 95, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great- and great-great-grandfather, passed away on September 21, 2026. Born on June 18th, 1931 in Mayersville, Mississippi, Shiloh’s life was a testament to hard work, patience, and dedication.

Shiloh was born to the late Tobe and Fannie T. Hite, who had nine children.

Shiloh joined the United States Army in 19XX, and served as a medic during the Korean War. He returned to Mayersville after his tenure and married Marie Hite April 27, 1953, before moving to Chicago, Illinois. There, they started a family, volunteered for several political campaigns, served as the Head Deacon and Deaconess at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, and Shiloh also coached little league baseball while working for U.S. Steel. Shiloh and Marie also served as Deacon and Deaconess at First Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois until they relocated back to Mayersville, MS in 1986.

In Mayersville, Shiloh continued his church service and community activism– over the next 30 years, he served on the Deacon Boards of The Ark of the New Covenant in Jesus’ Name in Mayersville, MS, Grace Temple Pentecostal Church in Greenville, MS, and First Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Jackson, MS. In the community, he served as an Alderman for Mayersville during his tenure with the Sheriff’s department and volunteered with community baseball as he was able. Long after his involvement ended, he continued to spread community values through his stories.

Shiloh is preceded in death by his wife, Marie; his parents, Tobe and Fannie; two brothers, Johnnie and James “Dean” Hite; four sisters, Bernice Dawson, Everlean Armstrong, Millie Williams, and Lillie “Doll” Belton; his granddaughter, Janal Lashawn Marie Hite, and nephew he raised as a son, Jeffrey Thomas.

Shiloh “Shea” Hite is survived by his daughter, Neddra (Hite) McGrew; granddaughter, Safira McGrew; great-grandchildren, Ashanti Hunt, Kendra Hunt, Kenneth Hunt Jr., Kayla Counts, and Elton Smith, III; great-great-grandchildren, Kendall Trader, Kendrick Hunt, and Kenneth Hunt III; his sisters Lola Rhone, Mattie Jones, and Apple Gains; sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Mary Cae Crayton; brothers Tobe III and Frankie Hite; brother-in-law Odell Belton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Shiloh’s memory will live on throughout his family, who affectionately called him “Grandaddy” or “Uncle Shiloh,” and the community, who knew him as “Mister” or “Brother Hite.”
