Graveside services for Shirley Nelson-Woods, 73, will be Saturday, September 19,2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Anguilla Cemetery in Anguilla. Pastor Eugene Bell will be officiating. Mrs. Woods died September 7, 2020 at her home.
Shirley Nelson Woods was born January 1, 1947 in Anguilla, MS to the late Josie and James Nelson.
Ms. Woods lived with her parents and siblings in Anguilla, MS and attended Henry Weathers High School. After graduation, she furthered her education at MS Valley State University, where she received her degree in Early Childhood Education. Ms. Woods received several accreditations from the Mississippi State Board of Education.
Ms. Woods was a dedicated educator for 45 years. She started her career with Head-Start which transitioned to Friends of Children of Mississippi. She was also an after school teacher with the Children Village that was located in Anguilla, MS.
Ms. Shirley Woods departed this life September 06, 2020 peacefully at her home. Ms. Woods is preceded in death by her parents, Josie and James Nelson, two brothers, David "Dee" Nelson and Leonard "Preacher Row" Nelson, one sister Ruby Buck and a daughter Shanesha Woods.
Ms. Shirley Woods leaves to cherish in her memory: two sisters Classie Davis of St.Louis, MO, Gloria Nelson of Norman, OK, two brothers James Nelson of St.Louis, MO and Roger Nelson of Rolling Fork, MS. One daughter Sandra Woods of Burbank, California, four sons John "Whimp" Woods (Tammy) of Anguilla, MS, Michael Woods (Elaine) of Rolling Fork, MS, Keshawn Woods of Chattanooga, TN, Derrick Nelson of Rolling Fork, MS, Lynndale "Wook" Bell, Jr. of Columbus, OH and a special friend David "Dusty Rhodes" Brown of Rolling Fork, MS, grandchildren Jomessia Woods, Teliyah Woods, Khristyn Baltimore, and Joslynn Williams. Great grandchildren Ma'Leah Winston, Traeydn Brooks, Karsen Carter, and London Riggins and a host of other friends and family.
