Obituary

Thomas F. Hunley was born October 21, 1950, to the late Willie Hunley and Lilly Hunley in Anguilla, MS.

Thomas accepted Christ at an early age at Sweet Home M.B. Church.

Thomas completed his high school education at Henry Weathers High School and received his bachelor's degree in Education at Mississippi Valley State University. After completing his studies, he was a teacher at Glen Allen High School where he was also the basketball coach. He went on to teach at Anguilla High School which later became South Delta School District. He taught history and was a bus driver for over 25 years before his retirement.

Thomas was also a dispatcher for the Sharkey County Sheriff Department for over 20 years.

Thomas was the chief of the Volunteer Fire Department for over 15 years.

After retirement from teaching, Thomas went on to work for the Friends of Children Headstart Center.

Thomas departed his earthly life on July 13, 2022, at Merit Health River Region in Vicksburg, MS.

Thomas was preceded in death by his father Willie Hunley, mother Lilly Hunley, and two sisters Odell Hunley and M. Lois Murray.

Thomas was a beloved brother and uncle and will be missed. He leaves behind one aunt, Louise Glasper, five sisters, Doris Jean, Joyce, Diane, Evelyn, and Belinda.

Thomas leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 47 years Rosie Hunley; three daughters Tameca Dickerson of Cedar Hill, TX, Velecia (Charles) Sims of Gulfport, MS and LaShel Jackson of Houston, TX. A special niece that he raised as his own; Veleda (Rick) Smith of Rolling Fork, MS and a goddaughter Alecia Jackson of Anguilla, MS; nine grandchildren Kenya Dickerson (USAF) of Goldsboro, NC, Cyan Dickerson of Cedar Hill, TX, Loren Sims, Camaron (Bria) Sims of Brandon, MS, Billeria Hollins, Tymia Jackson, Jerimi Jackson, Cassidy Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
